Duke-class Type 23 Frigate
HMS St Albans is the sixth ship to bear the name and the sixteenth and last ship of the class. She was built at Yarrow Shipbuilders and launched on 6 May 2000 and commissioned on 6 June 2002. St Albans sailed for a nine-month mission to the Middle East on 27 November 2015, carrying a Merlin HM2 and ScanEagle UAV. Whilst crossing the Mediterranean she was involved with the seizure of 320 kg of cocaine worth more than £1 million on the street. On 11 January 2016, HMS St Albans joined the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle and the USS Harry S Truman, the painting was commissioned to mark this deployment. HMS St Albans arrived back in Portsmouth on 5 August 2016.
